Sky News host Rita Panahi says judging by the Prime Minister’s performance in Question Time on Wednesday, cost of living concerns and soaring interest rates are “nothing more than a big fat joke”.
Ms Panahi’s remarks come after RBA Governor Philip Lowe was grilled in Senate Estimates on Wednesday, where he defended nine consecutive interest rate hikes.
“Hands up who has seen their mortgage payments skyrocket in recent months and doesn’t think it’s a big fat joke,” Ms Panahi said.

‘Truth-telling is remarkably selective’: Rita PanahiSky News host Rita Panahi says truth-telling is “remarkably selective”. Ms Panahi’s remarks come after Indigenous Australian Minister Linda Burney warned Peter Dutton to not make the “same mistake again” - referring to the Opposition Leader’s boycott of the National Apology to the Stolen Generation. “Well, Burney is a great one to talk about not making the same mistake again,” Ms Panahi said. Ms Panahi’s remarks come after ABC Managing Director David Anderson fronted Senate Estimates amid recent controversies around its coverage of Alice Springs and its social media policy. “Today we saw astonishing exchanges between ABC boss David Anderson and furious MPs demanding to know how a discredited report claiming Alice Springs locals concerned about violent crime were somehow motivated by racism,” Ms Panahi said. “The ABC journalist, their Indigenous affairs reporter who compiled the AM report, did not attend the meeting - she was not even in the room.”
