Tony Abbott’s former chief of staff turned Sky News host Peta Credlin has launched a spirited defense of the former prime minister. “My former boss, Australia’s 28th prime minister, is many things but homophobic and misogynistic are not among them,” she said. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson also weighed in on controversy over Mr Abbott’s appointment as a trade ambassador for the British government.

Mr Johnson said Mr Abbott had good credentials, but he did not necessarily agree with some of the former prime minister’s comments. Former prime minister Julia Gillard was also questioned over the appointment on British TV, during which she said “I’ve been through too many of these kinds of experiences to end up being infuriated”. “I think my views are clear, they’re well known, I don’t need to add to them, they’re no mystery to people,” she said.
