The NSW rail union has just hours to call off all strike action on Sydney's transport network or lose its billion-dollar deal with the state government. 9News

rail union has just hours to call off all strike action on Sydney's transport network or lose its billion-dollar deal with the state government.

The government has warned that any proposed changes to a foreign-built fleet of trains, which the union has repeatedly raised safety concerns over, will be off the table if industrial action continues past today. Earlier this week, Rail Tram and Bus Union secretary Alex Claassens promised there would be no further "major disruptions" on the state rail network for at least the coming fortnight. However, industrial action including the wearing of t-shirts and badges would continue.

Minister for Employment Relations Damien Tudehope said if the Rail Transport and Bus Union does not put the current deal with the government to its members by 5pm today it will be torn up. The ultimatum came after union Secretary Alex Claassens accused the state government of telling senior bureaucrats to stop negotiations, and said the union would not be advising its members to vote in favour of the current government deal.
