Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price has referred to Anthony Albanese and Linda Burney's press conference with Shaquille O'Neal as 'desperate times call for desperate measures'.

Aboriginal Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price says the Prime Minister and Indigenous Australians Minister's meeting with American basketball great Shaquille O'Neal over the Voice to Parliament shows"just how clueless and out of touch they both are".

She said while she had no doubt the sporting superstar"is a top bloke", it is"a bit insulting to call on a black American to help with black Australians". "If the PM and the Minister for Indigenous Australians thinks Shaq's experience with 'lifting people up who are marginalised' is the answer to winning Yes votes for the Voice then it demonstrates just how clueless and out of touch they both are with what the needs of Aboriginal Australians are," Senator Price said.

Tasmanian Liberal Senator Claire Chandler weighed in on the remarks, saying Senator Price was"spot on" with her commentary on the matter. Anthony Albanese said he had a"very positive conversation" with Shaquille O'Neal. Picture: NCA NewsWire / Monique Harmer
