Winds reached 113 km/h, prompting warnings and urging residents to stay indoors. Power restoration efforts are underway, but the community is advised to exercise caution due to potential hazards.

Dangerous winds have completely destroyed six homes and damaged 10 more during a chaotic storm in Western Australia's Pilbara region overnight. The storm, an isolated severe thunderstorm, developed over Marble Bar , south-east of Port Headland, around 6:15 pm AWST yesterday. According to the WA Department of Fire and Emergency Service ( DFES ), winds reached up to 113 km/h, causing significant damage to the 16 properties.

'DFES is currently investigating whether there is any further damage to properties,' a spokesperson stated. 'Given the town's age, we are aware that asbestos may be a concern so we are advising the community to take care when examining damage around their property.' Horizon Power has made progress in restoring power to the town, reconnecting 50 homes and deploying crews to reconnect another 15. A storm watch and act warning remains in place, urging the community to stay clear of damaged buildings and other hazards like live electricity, leaking gas, fallen trees, low or dropping branches, and damaged infrastructure. As a precautionary measure, residents are advised to remain indoors with doors and windows closed and to avoid areas affected by the storm. Marble Bar, renowned for holding the title of Australia's hottest town since 1924 after enduring the world's longest heatwave for 160 days, is now facing the aftermath of this powerful storm
