understands the parents of one of the children in hospital were comforted by a local priest after being approached by doctors about turning off their child’s life support at the weekend. It is unclear whether it was Chace’s family. “There’s a lot of pieces of this investigation that need to be pulled together, so we don’t want to rush it, but we also understand that the community wants answers.”
He would not comment on whether the families would be offered a state funeral but he said the government would work with them to understand their wishes. “There are also now plastic boxes on site for people to place any messages and cards safely. The flowers will remain on site with consideration to how these may be used as part of a more permanent tribute,” the message read.
