An unlicensed driver has allegedly thrown FLARES at police during a terrifying 45-minute high speed chase through Perth last night. 9News

One bystander, Alex Godfrey, told 9News they just saw "two bright lights heading towards me fast"."He was just giving everything to get away from police.The car was ditched into Moore River, and the driver fled on foot into bushland.

The 28-year-old driver is accused of setting off flares to distract officers. The flares sparked a scrub fire. In an attempt to evade police for good, the driver ditched the car in Moore River and fled through bush and into nearby property.Aerial footage shows police descending on the property before the arrest.The current had moved the vehicle downstream and flipped it upside down
