Victoria n Liberal MP James Newbury is under fire for a series of “bizarre social media posts” in which the member for Brighton complained the state was being run by politicians from regional electorates because they are “out-of-towners".
“The Premier and new Treasurer don’t live in Melbourne… We are being run by out-of-towners,” the Brighton MP said. Victoria’s newly appointed Treasurer released a statement responding to the comments on Thursday, denouncing the Liberal MP for “claiming Premier Jacinta Allan and I are unqualified to be leaders in this state because we are from the country”.
The optics allowed Labor to paint the shadow planning minister as a “blocker” opposed to developments that would allow young people to buy homes in “established” suburbs.
