A peak medical group wants coronavirus testing stations set up at checkpoints bordering Melbourne as more infections emerge in regional Victorian communities.

The Australian Medical Association Victoria is calling for increased monitoring of possible COVID-19 cases to protect residents in areas that have been spared the lockdown imposed on Melbourne.

"You can never do too much testing," he said. "In order to prevent it leaking from Melbourne, we’re going to have to think carefully about further strategies."Coronavirus infections remain low in regional Victoria, but cases are spreading to more communities.
