ABARES has warned the national flock will fall to its smallest size since 1904 this year.The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences on Tuesday said it now expected farm production to fall another 3 per cent through 2019-20. It would be the third successive annual decline, the first time that had occurred in 63 years.

Cattle farmers are also finding it difficult to maintain their animal numbers, with the Australian herd tipped to fall to 23.5 million, its smallest since the early 1990s.
