Former defence minister Peter Dutton has dismissed claims he shared confidential information about Australia acquiring two US nuclear-powered submarines by the end of the decade, saying the comments were a 'common-sense conclusion'.
The former defence minister suggested it was a “common-sense conclusion” that he had based on publicly available information and his “professional opinion”.
The article was slammed by Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles who labelled the comments as “rank politics”. Speaking to ABC’s Insiders program, Mr Dutton could not clarify where he received the information that confirmed Australia would acquire two US-manufactured submarines but said both Washington and the United Kingdom were “incredibly willing partners”.
