Retail experts say the increase in food prices in Townsville reflects a nationwide increase in grocery prices over time, but there are signs of stabilisation in 2025. Mr Dwyer said some items, like three-star beef mince, were up 63 per cent due to a complex range of reasons, including increased international demand.Families doing it tough"The price to make spaghetti bolognese has risen 63 per cent," he said.

"If we look at the food price index, which is sub index of total CPI, that's gone up by about 43 per cent," he said.A CHOICE investigation across four remote First Nations communities has found grocery items cost more than double capital city prices.
