Widespread caution about the impact of the omicron variant of COVID-19 cannot subdue the positive sentiment about global equities markets.

The outlook for equities markets in 2022 looks distinctly positive, notwithstanding the global upheaval caused by the surging wave of omicron COVID-19 infections.for Australia, the US, China, the eurozone and several Asian countries by strategists at JPMorgan are in line with 2022 outlooks issued by other leading investment banks.David Rowe

Anecdotal evidence in Sydney over the past month provided some insight into the domino effect of overly restrictive policies which clogged up the pathology laboratories and forced people into isolation without apparent good reason. There have been glaring inconsistencies between states. Jason Todd, Macquarie Group’s head of investment strategy, is recommending being overweight Australian equities because of the healthy yield premium over bonds and cash, and exposure to value and cyclical stocks.

These companies have become known as “pseudo bonds” because of their earnings predictability. Most of them are platforms with large-scale captive users, global reach and strong balance sheets.
