The gadget that for a moment had seemed like it was destined to be the next big thing had instead become a symbol of everything that was wrong with Silicon Valley. Though Google called Glass's early adopters"Explorers,"last week, Facebook seems to have learned from the shattering of Glass. Unfortunately, it seems the main thing Facebook has learned is that Glass was too expensive and looked too weird.
Though many of us already live in a world awash in smartphone cameras, there is a significant difference between seeing someone pointing a smartphone at you, and knowing that anyone you see in a pair of Ray-Bans could be filming you. Stories have not invented surveillance, but they will certainly make it a lot easier.
