In a joint statement with the Federal Treasurer and Health Minister, Scott Morrison says Daniel Andrews' Melbourne lockdown extension is a 'further reminder' of Victoria's quarantine failures, saying it was vitally important for the state to 'reopen our economy and reasonably restore the liberties of all Australians'.

The Federal Government has been critical of Victoria's handling of COVID-19 and Prime Minister Scott Morrison has been demanding Premier Daniel Andrews set out a path to lifting restrictions.which includes extending Melbourne's lockdown until September 27 but with modifications, such as allowing two people to meet as well as allowing 2 hours of exercise a day.
"While this needs to be weighed up against mitigating the risk of further community outbreak, it is also true that the continued restrictions will have further impact on the Victorian and national economy, in further job losses and loss of livelihoods, as well as impacting on mental health."Victorians urged to continue efforts to reduce community spread
