Three former fire chiefs have called for strong national leadership while reinforcing claims that 'unprecedented' bushfires raging across Australia are linked to climate change. 9News

Mr Mullins said he was reassured that Scott Morrison was openly acknowledging the role of climate change in the bushfires, but he called on the prime minister to do more to lower Australia's carbon emissions.

Last week, air quality in Sydney plummeted to levels typically found in third world mega cities, prompting concerns over long-term health. People wear face masks to protect from smoke haze as they cross a busy city street in Sydney, Australia. Smoke haze continues to hang over the city as bushfires burn across New South Wales.

Australia was ranked last out of 57 countries in a category assessing national climate policies, however Mr Morrison refuted the research.
