James Ledda contended he was fired because of his opposition to an alleged policy of the Williamsport school that favored Black students over whites.

The judge also stated in his opinion that Ledda failed to establish he was a victim of retaliation because of his opposition to the alleged preferential treatment of Black students. He contended he was terminated for complaining of racial bias by Cummings, Kurzejewski and Morrison and because he made reports to local police.

Despite three witnesses reportedly saying Ledda acted properly, he was given three paid days off and required to attend anger management classes. He contended the diocese never followed up with him about its investigation into his complaint but made it clear it believed he was a racist.
