Shane Fitzsimmons will front the bushfire royal commission on Wednesday, with questions likely to be raised about the extra steps the former NSW Rural Fire Service commissioner took once the scale of the fire season became evident.
Now that he will be fronting the commission, they should ask “what didn’t go well, why it didn’t go well, and what the future looks like”, Mr Lapsley, who has also appeared as a witness to the inquiry, said. NSW’s inquiry is due to report by the end of the month to the state government, while the royal commission has until the end of August.
