Thousands of homes have been swamped, pontoons and watercraft torn from their moorings, and schools and major roads blocked off as Queenslanders anxiously wait to see the extent of the damage caused by severe weather.
And about 51,000 properties across Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, Gold Coast, Scenic Rim, Sunshine Coast and Noosa, Lockyer Valley, Moreton Bay and Gympie lost their connection to the internet. Howard Smith Wharves was evacuated after a loose pontoon with a crane on it moved down Brisbane river. As the system moved south, flooding and rising river levels similar to those experienced during cyclones Debbie and Oswald were forecast to hit the Gold Coast and Logan areas.Queensland Fire and Emergency Services issued emergency alerts for parts of the Gold Coast and Logan late on Monday, warning the Albert and Logan rivers were expected to peak above 2017 levels by half a metre.
“Across the 10 LGAs where all schools will remain closed, there will be very limited public transport and travelling by road may be dangerous.
