Former world boxing champion Carl Frampton has heaped praise on First Minister Michelle O’Neill and Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly at an event celebrating community relations in Northern Ireland .
In a warm moment during a live Q&A with the Tiger’s Bay boxing hero at Girdwood Community Hub, Frampton referred to Martin McGuiness and Ian Paisley’s ‘Chuckle Brothers’ relationship and compared it to the current First and Deputy First Ministers.“Northern Ireland is in a good place at the minute and I think with these two behind it – it’s going to be even better.”
“I think boxing has always been one of them sports where it’s been seen as a really unifying one,” Frampton said. “I’m from only down the road and I grew up on an interface in Tiger’s Bay. The street that I lived in was literally on an interface. “Emma and I are 10 weeks into a newly restored Executive and very much committed to try and set the tone for what we are all trying to achieve in our society here,” O’Neill said.
“But that doesn’t mean that I can’t appreciate, enjoy and respect the culture identity, the heritage and traditions, the views of others.
