Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young accused the former Coalition government of holding the parliament"hostage" on climate change issues when it was in power.
Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young praised Labor for engaging in talks about amending the emissions reduction target saying it was a change from the previous government. Picture: NCA NewsWire / David Mariuz Despite Ms Hanson-Young’s criticisms of the former government holding the climate debate “hostage”, the Greens party has so far refused to support Labor’s climate legislation.
To get the legislation passed, Labor will need the support of the Greens and at least one crossbencher in the Senate., but moderate Liberal MPs including the member for Bass, Bridget Archer, have indicated they may cross the floor and support the bill.
"This bill makes it clear that 43 per cent is our minimum commitment and does not prevent our collective efforts delivering even stronger reductions over the coming decade," he said on Monday."It provides a platform for collaboration to drive down emissions while ensuring reliable energy supplies."
