A French backpacker has died after being bitten by a suspected brown snake in north-west Victoria where he was working as a casual grain harvester.
Emergency services rushed to a Nullawil property in the Mallee region on October 24, after the 25-year-old man was found unresponsive by a friend.
He was airlifted to The Alfred, a hospital about 300km away in Melbourne, in a critical condition, suffering a cardiac arrest. The man's life support was understood to have been switched off two days after he was taken to the hospital. A French backpacker has died after suffering a suspected brown snake bite. He was employed at the Access Grain site while on a working holiday visa, with owner Wade Humphreys telling the ABC the man's death was a"real tragedy". Mr Humphreys said it was not clear whether the snake bite occurred while the man was working at the site, or if he was bitten at another spot."The exact cause of the man's death is yet to be determined however it is not being treated as suspicious," Victoria Police said."WorkSafe has been notified of the incident and inspectors will determine whether further action is required," a spokesperson said.
