Michael Turner, a wingman for Geelong's team of the century, has passed away at 70 after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was a standout player for the Cats from 1974 to 1988, captaining the club and earning All-Australian honors. Turner also made a significant impact as a long-time manager and mentor for the Geelong Falcons.

Geelong team of the century wingman Michael Turner has died three weeks after his 70th birthday and just days after he was made an AFL life member.

The AFL confirmed life membership for Turner in the days before Christmas, following a special resolution from the AFL Commission in December. “MT9’s legacy will live long in the walls of Highton Reserve and in all the faces who have come through the club.” Geelong skipper Cameron Ling was one of eight Falcons from the Michael Turner era to captain an AFL club.He recalled his dad taking a phone call from Bob Davis early in his time in Geelong and saying: “We’re having trouble with Michael, his attitude’s shit house.”
