A ranking that assesses universities against the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals has named Western Sydney University the global leader.
Western Sydney University has been named the world’s best for efforts to tackle environmental and social challenges through research, teaching and local engagement.which measures universities’ contributions to the 17 United Nations sustainable development goals.Western Sydney University has sustainability and equality built into its DNA, says vice-chancellor Barney Glover.
The university claimed the number one spot for SDG 6 – clean water and sanitation – largely for its work in the Hindu Kush Himalayan region to strengthen river basin governance arrangements. “We were top 10 in the world for at least half of them, top 150 for 16 of the 17 and top 200 for all of them,” Professor Glover said.
