Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young says they were “held hostage” by the previous government and their “fossil fuel mates” who didn’t want any action on climate change.

She said at least the Albanese government and the Greens all want to head “somewhat in the same direction”.

“This issue is making sure it’s faster, it’s more effective and it actually deals with the problem,” Ms Hanson-Young told Sky News Australia. “And you can’t do that if you keep opening up new coal and gas mines, or indeed funding the fossil fuel industry through subsides.
