Former Labor senator Stephen Conroy says Greens leader Adam Bandt’s negotiation with Labor on its climate bill is a “grovelling backdown”.

Mr Bandt welcomed confirmation from the government that the 43 per cent emissions reduction target would be a minimum commitment.

Mr Conroy said to suggest Labor was only ever going to have a 43 per cent target is a “fig leaf” by Mr Bandt. “It is pleasing to see that Adam Bandt has a dose of reality and that the Greens are willing to accept that we need to legislate the 43 per cent,” he told Sky News Australia.
