Driving is a popular alternative to flying this year among holidaymakers weary of chaos and changes caused by COVID-19 | JordsBaker sallyrawsthorne
The stress of hoping COVID-19 results arrive in time to travel, skyrocketing Omicron cases and dozens of flight cancellations on Christmas Eve have made Jackie Miller and Leigh Pascoe feel they made the right decision to drive from Melbourne to Noosa these holidays.
“We like to take our time doing a drive and have a few adventures on the way,” Ms Miller says. “Flying is all a bit hectic, and we’re trying to avoid the airports too, and this way when you drive you can keep away from people as much as possible.” Peter Khoury from the NRMA said Australians always loved driving holidays, but they were more popular than ever this year given the uncertainty of air travel interstate or overseas.
