BREAKING: Four new cases of Covid-19 have emerged in Western Australia after a French backpacker visited multiple locations.
Premier Mark McGowan told reporters on Christmas Eve that one of the cases was a close contact who also attended the Perth Mess Hall event on December 19, while the other three were casual contacts.Mr McGowan said it meant health authorities were now upgrading the contact status for the event.
The 25-year-old unvaccinated Frenchman, who has been in Australia since before the pandemic, arrived in WA on December 12 – just one hour before the border restrictions were strengthened with Queensland. Meanwhile, people in the Perth and Peel regions must continue to wear a mask until at least 6am on Tuesday.
Masks are mandatory in all public indoor settings, including workplaces, shopping centres, hospitality venues and public transport.
