The corruption watchdog was forced to appoint a new commissioner for the inquiry into former MP Daryl Maguire amid concerns of a conflict of interest because Gladys Berejiklian was a witness | AlexSmithSMH

The ICAC will receive funding in next month's state budget and Ms Berejiklian told question time on Tuesday the agency had received 50 per cent more funding since the Coalition was elected in 2011.

A statement from Ms Berejiklian said the government would "carefully review all recommendations and respond accordingly" to the audit report. Balmain MP Jamie Parker, the Greens' spokesman on anti-corruption, said Ms Berejiklian was "out of excuses about why ICAC’s funding should not be made independent".

The Opposition wants to extend the ban to all MPs, with Labor leader Jodi McKay saying: "It’s illegal to receive donations from property developers. It should be illegal for the very same developers to pay politicians commissions."
