A record number of runners flooded the streets of Sydney to tackle the city's annual marathon.
With 25,000 registered participants, this year's marathon was Australia's largest ever, surpassing the previous record of 17,000 set last year.Runners streamed over the Harbour Bridge, where the roads were closed, towards the Sydney CBD.Kenyan athlete Brimin Kipkorir Misoi charged across the finish line in a time of 02.06.18.Ethiopian star Workenesh Gurmesa set another record by triumphing in the women's field.
Fresh from claiming silver at the Paris Paralympic Games, Australia's Madison de Rosario continued to showcase her dominance.Attribution: Always Human Three-time Paralympian and one of the world's most successful wheelchair racers Joshua Cassidy also defended his title.With two records broken, it was the fastest marathon ever run on Australian soil.The sun was shining as thousands ran from North Sydney Oval, crossing the iconic Syndey Harbour Bridge.Race Director Wayne Larden said he was "absolutely thrilled with today's results, both on and off the course".
