Indigenous leader Noel Pearson has lambasted the Nationals’ decision to oppose a Voice to parliament, warning the junior Coalition partner risks writing itself off and likening party leader David Littleproud to a “kindergarten child”.
Indigenous leader Noel Pearson has accused the National Party’s David Littleproud as a “kindergarden child.”“A number of MPs have told me that the reason they were open to the Voice was that they have Aboriginal people in their electorates. They see Aboriginal people every day, Aboriginal people enter their doors of the offices.
“Because Pauline Hanson got caught in a vortex, and it’s a celebrity vortex. A celebrity vortex that’s very compelling, that gets her out in front of people and gets a lot of cheers, but it’s also a redneck celebrity vortex. And, ultimately, it’s a tragic redneck celebrity vortex. Pearson said the Nationals had “foisted the mantle of leadership on a boy” in Littleproud, who he also described as a “kindergarten child” and “incapable of the leadership that’s necessary for the country and for his party”
