While many in Macquarie Street have condemned Nationals leader John Barilaro's stance on koala habitats as plunging the Government into turmoil, supporters in regional parts of NSW say his challenge is 'empowering' for grassroots party members.
"It strengthens our resolve as a party room; Barra was delivering on the will of the party room," he said.
"The definition of koala habitat is too broad; the mapping is not accurate, and it gives local councils too much power it's unworkable," he said Mr Stokes went further releasing a statement saying the only stakeholder correspondence raising concerns about the policy received from the Deputy Premier was from a major property developer.
"A lot of people are disappointed in the behaviour, making threats for something that could have been worked out without threats is frustrating," he said."I feel something else must be bubbling under the surface, just maybe we are not hearing the whole story.
