Ten per cent of the Australia Council’s boosted budget should be preserved for literature, which receives four per cent of federal arts funding and is also underfunded by most state governments, Writing NSW said.Acclaimed writer Helen Garner gave thanks in her submission for the funding she received from the now defunct Literature Board which gave her months of unencumbered time for wide reading, and reflection.
