Greens leader Adam Bandt had been pushing for the commitment as part of negotiations to pass the new government's climate bill.
Labor has agreed to some of the Greens' demands, including that the bill would state any target was a floor, not a ceiling, and that there would be no reduction in the government's ambition. "They are entitled to do that but that's not the policy of the Labor Party and we won't be supporting it because that would have a devastating impact on our economy."The push has been a key pillar of Bandt's public comments regarding the legislation, which is due to be introduced to Parliament on Wednesday.
