Australian employers struggling with serious staff shortages have been urged to hire job applicants with a disability, asreveals plans to champion the underutilised skilled workforce.

“We want to ensure young people with disability are supported to find work and enter careers of their choice,” she will say. Australian Institute of Health and Welfare data shows one in six Australians have a disability, about 4.4 million people. Some 2.1 million people with disability in Australia are of working age.

“There is so much more we can do in this space. As a government we are looking at how we can improve employment outcomes for people with disability.”
