The millionaire Melbourne family and crew who left Victoria on the Lady Pamela superyacht bound for Queensland have been hit with fines totalling $9000 after they were allegedly caught visiting NSW on their journey. NSW Police said tonight that nine penalty infringement notices had been issued after crew members and passengers disembarked contrary to the state's public health orders on three occasions: at Eden on August 12, Port Stephens on August 16, and Yamba on August 21.
Uniformed NSW Police officers were seen today greeting their Queensland counterparts outside the Gold Coast hotel where Mr Simonds and his family have been spending their 14 days in quarantine. A previous fine issued to the skipper by Queensland Police was today upgraded to a criminal charge. The skipper has been issued with a notice to appear in court for allegedly lying to an emergency officer under the Public Health Act.NSW Detective Chief Inspector Todd Cunningham said police had security footage and witness accounts to support the fines.
