Australia Post has confirmed today is the last day people have to send gifts by standard Parcel Post, if they want to get them to the recipients before the big day.
But deadlines for Express Post are further off, with a last posting day of December 20, or December 15 for Western Australia and the Northern Territory.Australia Post executive general manager Deliveries Rod Barnes said he expected to exceed last December's delivery record of more than 52 million parcels, with more than three million a day to reach customers on the busiest days.
"We're coming off the back of the biggest online shopping month ever in November, so we know a lot of people did get their Christmas shopping done early during those big cyber sales and as a result we've been delivering over 2.3 million parcels each weekday," he said. "If people do miss those sending deadlines, we will still do our very best to get those presents delivered in time, but it's important to know that they may not arrive until after Christmas."More than 380 post offices have extended trading hours across the country.
Stores are also offering specially designed Christmas decorations, with proceeds going towards mental health services, and gifting books to children in remote communities.
