Eloise Wellings, a 39-year-old mother-of-two, is poised to become the first Australian runner to have competed in five Commonwealth Games.on the start line of the marathon at 7.30pm tonight , 16 years after making her Commonwealth Games debut.

Wellings, formerly a 5000m and 10,000m athlete, contested the Commonwealth Games of 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018, and has shifted to the marathon since having her second child in November 2019. She had a breakthrough performance in the Japanese city of Nagoya in March, posting 2:25:10 to become the fourth-fastest Australian woman over the marathon in history.

The men's marathon will get underway at 6pm, with Liam Adams and Andy Buchanan set to roll for Australia.
