However, Chief Health Officer John Gerrard said the state was not "actively monitoring" day-five PCR tests for people travelling from interstate hotspots. Ms Weston said her daughter could not apply for a border pass until she had received her negative COVID-19 test and was worried her application would not be processed in time.

"It was extremely stressful because I was essentially in a position where I couldn't get a test and I didn't know when the exemption was going to come back and I really didn't know how I was going to get back to Queensland for Christmas.There have been numerous reports of lengthy delay times at testing clinics across New South Wales and Victoria.
