The four-year-old girl was found dead at a home in Brisbane’s west. Her father and stepmother are charged with murder.

A four-year-old girl who suffered “months of neglect” and “malnutrition” was half the expected weight for a child her age when she died and had stopped growing eight months prior.

“This is months and months of neglect, this is not one incident … [and it is] supported by the extreme lack of weight of the child at death. And also cruelty to another child,” he said. The judge said autopsy results showed Willow was “deprived of food for an extended period of time” and when she died she was “significantly underweight” and showing “obvious signs of extended neglect”.

“There is also expert evidence to indicate that the child’s condition was such that malnutrition would have been obvious, and evidence of sustained neglect over a significant period of time.”The court heard White has seven children, between the ages of three and 27, who all lived in South Australia and the youngest children were being cared for by the older children.

Morreau described the allegation of murder against her client as “weak”, but the manslaughter case was “strong”.
