A man is in custody over a series of sexual assaults that took place in Victoria 20 years ago. Detectives are focusing on two incidents that occurred in 1998. 9News
Officers search bushland in the Dandenong Ranges back in 1998 following the alleged attacks.She said a woman was hitch-hiking along Belgrave-Gembrook Road in Belgrave when she was picked up by a man in a vehicle who offered to give her a lift.
"She was subsequently taken to a remote area, threatened with a firearm and sexually assaulted before being dropped in Emerald," Goldrick said.Real estate promotion becomes world-famous landmark Goldrick said another woman was hitch-hiking along Wellington Road in Clematis when she was picked up by a man who also threatened her with a firearm and drove her to a remote area.Goldrick said police were appealing for any information about other alleged incidences in the Dandenong Ranges area between 1996 and 2000.
Investigators believe a number of different vehicles were used by the alleged offender in the incidents, including a maroon Toyota 4Runner 4WD. Goldrick said police were keen to speak to anyone who hitch-hiked in the Dandenong Ranges between 1996 and 2000, including those who did so without incident.
