Kenneth Littlemore, 47, also took the dog walker's Pomeranian

A drunken thug accused a dog walker of stealing his XL bully before chasing him with a hammer and snatching his Pomeranian.

He then accused the man of being involved in the theft while swinging the weapon around. The complainant picked up Bonsai, "fearing either himself or his dog might be hurt", and retreated to the communal door of a nearby apartment block. The police subsequently located him in front of his house, with the stolen pet being found "running loose" in a nearby park. Bonsai was then returned to his rightful owner. Littlemore told officers following his arrest: "I just wanted my dog back."

"He feels he has let himself down. He wishes to have the opportunity afforded to him to apologise to the victim for his behaviour. Sentencing, Judge Katherine Pierpoint said: "The victim was out walking his dog, minding his own business, when he had the misfortune of coming across you. You were highly intoxicated and appeared extremely distressed.
