Police are addressing the media about a flying gas bottle that killed a man as storms lashed Sydney last night

An SES spokesperson said volunteers had been called to over 900 jobs across the state since 9pm on Tuesday, with over 600 in the Sydney metropolitan area.

"There are still calls coming in as people wake up to the damage," she said, reminding people to not move within 8 metres of downed power lines and to contact their local energy provider, not the SES, for electrical hazards.
