Jury finds Toby Loughnane murdered 36-year-old after a trial heard of months of violent assaults

Prosecutors had told the trial that Loughnane murdered the 36-year-old in the early hours of 11 April 2021, after months ofLoughnane then disposed of Hamka’s body in a shallow grave at Cape Schanck, southeast of Melbourne, on 14 April, and led investigators toHe had denied the murder charge, claiming instead that Hamka died of a drug overdose.
But the lawyer said Loughnane’s only crime was breaching a duty of care by not calling an ambulance on 11 April, and he was a heavy drug user who was trying to distance himself from her manslaughter.
