A man has been shot and killed by police after he tried to enter an Alabama elementary school and then fought with a school resource officer who tried to stop him. 7NEWS
At least 34 students were inside Walnut Park Elementary School when the man tried to get inside, Gadsden City School Superintendent Tony Reddick told CNN.Watch the latest News on Channel 7 or stream for free onALEA said a school resource officer saw the man trying to force his way into a marked Rainbow City patrol vehicle near the school and tried to stop him.The officer called for back-up and a responding officer shot the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
“This is Gadsden, a tight-knit community. You don’t think that something like this is going to happen at your school,” Reddick said. “Our schools, especially after ... what’s happened in Texas, we have one of the largest school resource officers programs in Etowah County, preaching that these doors stay locked. That the individual was not able to make it inside the school,” he said.
