Head of Research at Pepperstone Chris Weston says if the US president’s fresh tariffs kick in “the market will get very nervous and we are going to see tougher times in 2020”.

The President Trump’s trade war is growing after he announced new tariffs on all steel and aluminum imports from Brazil and Argentina.

Mr Weston told Sky News the tariff impositions on the two nations were a result of him waking up on the wrong side of the bed on Monday morning. Mr Weston said the Trump-led decline on US markets could also prompt “the word recession to be bandied around again”.
