The fast food chain is removing the smile from its Happy Meal boxes for the first time ever to encourage children to talk about their emotions
For the first time ever, McDonald's has removed the smile from millions of its Happy Meal boxes in restaurants across the country. The move aims to communicate to children it is okay not to be happy all the time, helping spark family conversations about emotions during Mental Health Awareness Week .
The boxes will be available nationwide in all McDonald's restaurants, with the stickers available in select locations from Monday, May 13 until Sunday, May 19. Football icon and father-of-five, Rio Ferdinand, has joined hands with McDonald's to lend his support to the campaign, using his personal parenting experiences to underscore the importance of discussing emotional well-being with children.
Furthermore, the research reveals that parents place substantial emphasis on their children maintaining a positive attitude at all times. A considerable 74% of parents express that it's essential to prevent their children from experiencing sadness.
