The Premier will close two coal-fired power stations in the next 10 years and will throw more than $3.5 billion into renewables as Western Australia shifts away from coal.
The Premier said on Tuesday state-owned provider Synergy will shut its coal-fired power plants in Collie and nearby Muja by 2030 to make room for a $3.5 billion renewables overhaul.
“With the uptake of solar and wind and renewables coming on stream in more and more numbers, it means the demand for coal is going down. The Collie power station will shut its doors in October 2027 and the Muja station will close late-2029.
