Two Brisbane-based federal MPs will replace the Liberal National Party members who lost their positions after the election.

Two Brisbane-based federal MPs have been nominated by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to fill vacancies on the Brisbane organising committee for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Graham Perrett and Anika Wells will join the organising committee for the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games. Wells, also the minister for Aged Care, attended the previous BOCOG meeting at Brisbane’s City Hall as an official observer.Perrett said the challenge for the committee was to leave a legacy for the city.

He said his aim was to build from the enthusiasm generated by World Expo 88, Sydney’s 2000 Olympics and the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.“Whether that is sitting on your couch, or volunteering, or competing, or inspiring people to fight their type 2 diabetes challenge - whatever it is - all of those things I want that to be legacies,” he said.
