"Without having their alternative proposal on the table, it's difficult to say definitively," Mr Minns said."Our hope is that if an alternative site can be found, some modifications to the development application can be made."Federal Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek granted an Aboriginal protection orderThe dam, which would be used to store mining waste, was due to be built on the headwaters of the Belubula River.
The protection order means the mine's owner, Regis Resources, must find an alternative site for the tailings dam.
